The mission of the City of Minnetonka Historical Society (MHS) is to discover, preserve, and disseminate knowledge and information about the history of Minnetonka to its citizens. Founded in 1970, MHS offers a variety of programs, exhibits, and publications about Minnetonka history, and collects and preserves artifacts relating to Minnetonka’s heritage for future generations.
The Minnetonka Historical Society Museum, located in the Mill Office building on the grounds of the Burwell House (13209 E. McGinty Road in Minnetonka), is open on Saturdays from 1 - 4 p.m. during the months of June through August. The museum offers regularly-changing exhibits on Minnetonka history. Also in Minnetonka, the historic Charles H. Burwell House (13209 E. McGinty Road) is owned and operated by the City of Minnetonka and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Tours of the house are available as follows: June - August: Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays from 1 - 4 p.m. (no reservation required) September: Saturdays and Sundays, 1 - 4 p.m. (no reservation required) By special appointment for groups of seven or more, only during the regular tour season. Tours are free of charge, with the option to make a donation to the continued preservation of Burwell House.
