A seed germinator; cylindrical canister of galvinized tin with three legs and a tight-fitting lid with handle; ventilation holes covered with mesh at top and bottom; brass label on the canister reads “THE LAWTON SEED CORN TESTER / DISTRIBUTED EXCLUSIVELY BY / THE FARMER / ST. PAUL, MINN. / APPROVED BY / MINN. CROP IMPROVEMENT ASSN. / MINN. CROPS PRODUCTION COMMITTEE / MINN. FOOD ADMINISTRATION”; roll of cloth and mesh inside; seed corn was placed on the dampened fabric, rolled with the mesh, and placed inside the canister to test germination; used on the Brandt farm in Framnas Township in the early 1900s; was possibly a premium from The Farmer magazine.
