Description
This stove-pipe shaped, flexible basket is 7 inches in diameter and 6 1/4 inches tall. It is made of very fine grass and root materials, and is a medium brown. The design of dark brown and red worked around the center of the basket is made from porcupine quills. The basket was given to me by Miss Louise Davis, the first Eskimo girl to receive a college education. She later entered the Service, and was one of the finest home economics teachers I ever knew. The basket was made by the Tlinkit Indians of Alaska. The design is not visible from the inside of the basket. The basket has 24 rows ans 17 stitches per inch.
