13.970 cm. H Item (Overall)

15.240 cm. Diameter

This very old, smoked up piece of pottery with the round bottom and narrowing neck was probably a prehistoric cooking utensil. It is 5 1/2 inches high by 6 inches in diameter. This is the only piece of pottery that I ever excavated and did not crack or damage while getting it out. I worked one whole afternoon getting this and the five pottery pieces (see 66.1.250) out. I should add that I wasn't excavating anywhere where is shouldn't have been, since this particular place had not been closed to the public for archaeologists to make studies. This bowl is a good example of a cooking utensil. It still shows where it was put in the fire.
