Creation Date
circa 1809
Photo of medal perhaps given to Iron Cloud, found in a mound on Main street in Red Wing, according to Rasmussen's history of Red Wing, p.101: "According to best historical evidence they were buried with an Indian chief in the mound. The medals were presented to the chief by General Pike on his visit to Red Wing in 1806 after returning from the headwaters of the Mississippi that year." This may be the date for the "Jefferson" medal, but this medal is stamped with a portrait of James Madison and the date 1809.
